Group Bike Tour Through The Avenue of the Giants

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Motivated by global climate change, America’s wars for oil, rising gas prices, and a desire to build community, a group of bicycle riders will ride 70 miles from Garberville to Arcata to demonstrate the viability of the bicycle as a form of sustainable and fun transportation on April 26th and 27th. Once in Arcata, the group will participate in a day of action on Friday, April 28th that will include volunteering at community gardens and talking with area high school students about the ride. “We are working in conjunction with the economic re-localization groups that are springing up all over northern California to begin looking at sustainability issues facing us as we move away from a fossil fuels based economy” says local activist and ride participant Douglas Schwaab of Garberville. The ride is open to anyone who would like to go. Ride organizers are committed to finding bikes for people who currently do not have their own set of wheels. There will be an informational and organizing meeting at Calico’s in Garberville at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 15th. For more information, please contact: mailto:thistle@riseup.netor call 707 367 1602.
